WHO WE ARE

Team Speed Hertz is comprised of former students of Dr. Make McDermott who met while competing in the Formula SAE program at Texas A&M University, which Dr. McDermott advised from 1998 to 2014, amassing multiple competition wins and numerous top finishes. Dr. McDermott’s tenure as the faculty advisor for the A&M team is one of the most successful in FSAE history.

Our team features strong backgrounds in engineering analysis, manufacturing, and racing, with members who branched out into many different careers after graduation, including technical sales, manufacturing, aerospace, consulting, and project management. In fact, a portion of the team, including Dr. McDermott, previously built and raced a Honda RS125-derived bike in the SCTA at Bonneville, capturing a record in the 100CC partially-faired class.

Dr. Make McDermott

Dr. Make McDermott is a Professor Emeritus in Mechanical Engineering who taught courses in dynamics and vehicle dynamics at Texas A&M University for more than 40 years. He also previously set a world record in a combustion engine class at Bonneville.
